OPEN Advise to Don Norman…

“If you work for a man, in heaven’s name work for him, speak well of him, and stand by the institution he represents. Remember, an ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness. If you must growl, condemn, and eternally find fault – resign your position, and when you are outside, damn to your heart’s content and keep your mouth shut- but as long as you are part of the institution, do not condemn it. If you do, the first high wind that comes along will blow you away, and probably you will never know why.”

Elbert Hubbard

Don Norman Obinna, I have read your letter to Sen. T.A. Orji (Ochendo). Whatever your intent, no matter how thoughtful the motive, one can read in between lines to decipher the tissues of innuendoes and subtle blackmail.

That quote from Elbert, remain a guideline sign post while entering my Office as Chief of Staff to Ochendo for those good years.

Why am I concerned? On your open letter to our Boss. You will recall that your major meeting with Ochendo which set the stage of your being engaged as his Media Assistant happened at my Item native home. You may also recall the role I played . Remember also that at the time, he had been elected a Senator with you as his major critic and in the sideline. You obviously know what transpired. It takes deep sense of responsiveness for a man to accept working with the same person who had once denigrated him on national TV.

You resigned your appointment out of your own volition. I expect you to go into quiet “retirement” without stirring the hornets nest. This path you are taking now is dangerous and self destroying. This is not about the right to freedom of expression. It’s about knowing how to choose your fights.

I have heard people say how dangerous a reconciled enemy is. The only thing I see in you is the prospect of a progressive man. Forget impressionistic views. Avoid this line of cross fire. It is not the best for you. I have tomorrow in mind. Those who are cheering you are the same who also wished you were stranded while you did that job. They are proponents of misfortune. Just move on and concentrate on your new job.

But if you choose this part of dishonor some of us that knew the reason for your open letter will speak out.
