We have been informed today that a large amount of money in dollars was mopped up from Abia state and taken to Owerri for the purpose of bribing the Court of Appeal judges to compromise the case pending in Abia state Elections Gubernatorial Elections Tribunal.
Our sources informed us that the anchor person is a top government official in the state who on instruction of his masters mopped up dollars in Aba and Umuahia in the past few days.
Unknown to the conspirators, a security alarm was set out when demand for dollars in the state witnessed an un precedented upsurge This triggered a security alarm and surveillance was placed on the movement of the dollars.Our sources informed us that the money was recently moved to Owerri and it was discovered that it was intended to bribe the Court of Appeal judges to giving a ruling in a petition filed in the court over the decision of the Abia panel not to truncate the petition against the governor but to wait until final determination of the Petition.
Our sources in the security agency could not confirm to us if the money has passed hands or if the judges are willing to play ball as at the time of this post.
We shall continue to monitor the event and keep you posted.
When we made enquiries from some lawyers, they informed us that it will be absurd for the court of appeal to accept the bribe and give such a judgment which will be different from other decided cases, in court of Appeal Benin, which faced with the same scenerio as this one in the case involving Governor Okowa ruled that the Tribunal was right to delay judgement until after hearing.
They informed us that same thing was held in the case of Adeyemi against Dino Melaye.
At the moment Abians are praying that the court of Appeal, Owerri will not be persuaded by the heavy money offered in dollars to kill justice. We are assured that the security agencies are on it .
