The government of Abia State has suspended the ban which restricted the operation of tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep,to the hours of 6am and 7pm.This was necessitated by the resurgence of criminal activities in Aba and Umuahia,as security reports had confirmed that hoodlums operate with Keke and Okada.
However, due to the rehabilitation of roads currently going on in Aba,the government discovered that access has been restricted in many roads, causing heavy traffic jam and other related challenges to commuters.
Consequently, the government is responding to the situation by suspending the ban on Keke operation forthwith.
A release signed by the chief press secretary to the governor,Godwin Adindu assured that government would take urgent steps to fast-track the rehabilitation of roads, and complete the exercise within seven days, while security agencies have been mandated to beef up security in Aba and Umuahia,to checkmate the excesses of hoodlums.
