Don't Manipulate Abia Election Results Ohanaeze Ndigbo Warns Abia Government

A faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo South-West zone has expressed
shock and disappointment over the attempt by
the powers that be in Abia State to thwart the
will of the people during the April 11 governorship
election in the state.
In a statement by Prince Nathaniel Uzomah and
Chief Iheonunekwu George, president and
secretary respectively, Ohanaeze South-West
zone said the crisis in Abia State was uncalled for
because the election was won at first ballot.
It said rather than cause mayhem in the state,
the ruling party should toe the line of President
Goodluck Jonathan by accepting defeat in the in
terest of peace and join hands with the winner to
move the state forward.
According to the group, as an organization,
saddled with the responsibility of peace, unity and
progress of Igbo anywhere in the world, it had
taken time to independently study the outcome of
the election and discovered that the candidate of
the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won
the majority of the votes cast.
It said though Ohanaeze was not a political
organization, it would not keep quiet where there
was a clear case of injustice and attempt to
manipulate the will of the people.
The group appealed to the elders and leaders of
thought in Abia State to wake up and ensure that
justice was done.
“Our attention has been drawn to the ugly
incident currently playing in Abia State. Abians,
we all know, are not noted for political violence.”
We have taken time to independently study the
outcome of the election and discovered that what
is going on is an attempt to manipulate the will of
the people by the powers that be.
Though we are
not a political organization, we cannot close our
eyes over such incident; so we have decided to
speak out by calling on those who are trying to
do this to desist from it and allow the will of the
people to reign. Abians have made their choice
and it must not be changed,” the statement read
in part.
