Gov. Ikpeazu Reminds LG Chairmen Of Tenure Expiration, Urges ABSIEC To Prepare For Next Election

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has finally reminded Abia State Local Government Chairmen that their tenure expired on the 28th of December 2018.

Based on a press release made available  and signed by Abia State Commissioner for Information, the governor appreciated the out going LG Chairmen and advised them to handover all government properties to Heads of Service of each LGA who will temporarily see to the smooth running of the LG.

In the same press release, the governor instructed Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) to immediately commence preparation for the next LG election. 

Abia State Government, led by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, wishes to express profound appreciation to the elected local government officials whose tenure expired on the 28th of December 2018.

As required by relevant state law, the Chairmen and other elected or appointed officials are expected to formally hand over to their respective Local Government Heads of Service (HOS) who will temporarily see to the smooth operations of the local governments pending further announcement.

The Governor has also directed the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission to commence preparations for the conduct of new elections into the various positions within the local government system and advise on date and other requirements for the earliest conduct of the polls.
