A former governorship aspirant during the just concluded All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election in Abia State, Ambassador Chidike Ukauwa, has alleged threat to his life by the agents of the Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the state.
Ukandu, who spoke to newsmen at press conference in Umuahia, the State capital on Wednesday, claimed that he had been receiving series of threatening calls over his support to President Muhammadu Buhari and the party’s gubernatorial flag bearer in Abia, Uchechukwu Ogah.
He vowed that no amount of campaign and propaganda will deter him in the quest to enthrone good governance in the state come 2019.
Ukauwa, who recalled how he allegedly escaped from assassins last Friday, while driving along Azikwe Road in Umuahia, revealed that he had petitioned the security agencies over the alleged threat to his life.
The APC chieftain, however maintained that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led government had foisted hunger and poverty on the people of the state, stressing that come 2019 election, Ikpeazu would be sent packing by the Abia electorates.
According to him, “Nothing will deter me from standing on truth. There is total collapse of governance in Abia state. Abia currently is in dire need of change, because the present PDP-led adminsitartion has impoverished the masses.
“I want to appeal to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and other relevant security agencies to come to my aid, as my residence is being besieged by unknown persons.
“There have been suspicious movements around my residence. But nothing will deter me from standing on truth. Abians are being subjected to hardship despite the huge resources the state is receiving from the federal government and international donors”.
Meanwhile, as well of the time of this report, phone calls put to the State Commissioner of Information, John Okiyi Kalu for his response was unsuccessful.
