Abia Facts Newspaper has finally laid hands on the petitioned tabled before the Abia State House of Assembly that led to the suspension of the Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area, Honorable Chidiebere Nwachukwu.
Based on the petition that was signed by one Joseph Okoronkwo, dated 13th February, 2018 and titled RE: GROSS MISCONDUCT AND MISAPPROPRIATION OF GOVERNMENT FUND BY MR. CHIDIEBERE NWACHUKWU (EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN UMUAHIA NORTH L.G.A), the petition alleges the following;
“The said Chairman with impunity just on 10th of February 2018 misappropriated the whooping sum of over N6,000,000.00 (Six Million Naira) for the lavish burial ceremony of his uncle from the coffers of the Umuahia North Local Government Council”
“Furthermore, the said Chairman who has turned the Treasury of the said Council into his personal account has so manipulated the activities of the said Council that no proper account of the internally generated revenue of the said Council is kept thereby leading to constant empty treasury”
“As if this is not enough, the said Chairman who has lost touch with the current administration of the said Council due to his inordinate quest for power has recently openly declared his intention to run for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency election in 2019 and has been spending the funds of the Council for campaign for his said ambition”
“The said Chairman who has no regard for constituted authority and laid down rules is in the constant habit of shooting cannons/guns within the Council upon the private visits of his friends even residing outside the country”.
It was also gathered that the said Chairman who believes his deputy is one of those behind his ordeal made moves to impeach his deputy by instigating the Councilors, but the move did not work.
As at the moment, meetings are ongoing between key stakeholders in Umuahia North Local Government Area to resolve the issue.
