The attention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Abia State has been drawn to yet another horrendous and unprovoked violent attack carried out against some members of the party who had gathered to hold their party ward meeting at Umuebi, Ward 3 in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.
The attack which was carried out by thugs suspected to be agents of the PDP and Abia state government saw innocent APGA members beaten up and injured, seats for their meeting carted away, phones stolen and motorcycles belonging to innocent APGAns taken away.
It would interest Abians and other lovers of democracy to know that this latest attack is not the first of its kind, it has in fact become a recurring decimal as far as Obingwa is concerned.
Specifically, in December 2017, hoodlums working for Abia state government hatched a plot to attack Dr. Alex Otti when he attended Seventh Day Adventist Conference held at an open field at Mgboko Umuanunu, in Obingwa L.G.A of the State.
After realizing that Dr. Otti’s security men were on red alert to repell any attack, the hoodlums went and blocked the major exit route from the community, and while Otti’s official car and others managed to drive out of the venue unharmed, the last vehicle (Bus) in the convoy wasn’t lucky as it was attacked, leaving the side mirrors and glasses smashed, while some occupants were injured by thugs who jumped out from three Hilux Security Vans that were deployed from the governor’s country home Umuobiakwa.
The hoodlums also went to harass APGA and Otti’s supporters in the community individually for either joining Otti at the church service or for allowing him stop over at their houses.
In the same month of December, an APGA ward office billed for commissioning was set on fire by thugs suspected to be loyal to the PDP and Abia state government, if not for the resistance put up by APGA supporters there, the office would have been completely razed down.
Again, in early January, the traditional ruler of Akpa Mbato Autonomous Community, who goes by the name, J.O.Ukomadu issued an insulting, provocative and demeaning press statement which was repeatedly aired on different radio stations, urging the indigenes of the community not to allow Dr Otti entry into the community and threatening to deal with anyone who goes contrary to his crude and barbaric directive.
The announcement was carried out after these characters got hint that Otti planned to pay a private visit to his long time friend, Chief Okezie Orji.
We have no doubt that this primitive act had the seal of Abia state government and its agents.
APGA as party and Dr. Alex Otti as an individual had consciously kept quiet, with the hope that these medieval provocateurs would turn a new leaf, sadly, our responsibility and civility seems to embolden their nihilism and irresponsibility on a daily basis.
APGA, her leaders and friends within and outside Abia are carefully taking note of these unwarranted attacks,we also hope that Abians take note so that they will know those to hold responsible when the whirlwind being invited by Abia state government starts blowing uncontrollably.
Finally, APGA wishes to appeal to all men of good conscience to prevail on Abia state government and their desperate agents to stop threading this dangerous path that stands to benefit no one in the long run, because the patience of APGA and her leaders is not inelastic.
A stitch in time saves nine!
Signed
Rev. Augustine Ehiemere
State Chairman
APGA, Abia State.
