Abia State Primary And Secondary School Teachers Embarks On Indefinite Strike

Based on the instruction of National Union of Teachers, Abia State Primary and Secondary School teachers have embarked on an indefinite strike to protest the non payment of close to 6 months of salary by Abia State government.

Speaking with one of the union leaders,he stated that the strike is to press home the fact that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu led administration is owing them more than 6 months salary and has not shown any desire to pay.

The Union leader who was very unhappy, stated that the government even refused to use the latest Paris Club Refund to clear the backlog of salary, but instead divert it to other areas.

“Obviously, this government is not treating us well, they are not bothered that we have families and we are suffering because of non payment of salary. This is my 6th month of not collecting salary and the governor seems not to be bothered”

“The worst part is that, President Buhari spelled it out that the recently released Paris Club refund should be used to pay backlog of salary, but what did the government? They diverted the fund to other areas and pay us just 1 month out of 6 months is that not wickedness?”

“Our national body has mandated us to go on strike if the state government refuse to pay our salaries and we have embarked on it” he concluded.
