The monthly sanitation exercise for December 2016 holds today between the hours of 9a.m and 11a.m.
A release signed by the Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals Development says movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand valid identification or any authentic authorization for such as exemption.
According to the release, Transition Committee Chairman, traditional rulers in all the autonomous communities, Town Unions leaders, religious leaders, youths and women organizations in the state are expected to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to take part.
The release also says all markets; motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises are to remain close today between 7a.m and 9a.m to carry out their own clean-up.
The release further enjoins the Nigeria Police, Federal Road safety Commission the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to assemble at their usual places of take-off for deployment.
The National Youth Service Corps members are also to participate effectively in the exercise while the various Transition Committee Chairman of the 17 local government areas are to take care of them.
The release warns that offenders shall be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental law.
