Aba Urban Renewal Committee was constituted by this present government of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to establish sanity in Aba. The city before now was bedeviled with many challenges ranging from;
a) Erecting of structures illegally
b) Street Trading
c) Decayed Infrastructure
This populace government saw the urgent need to tackle all these problems. Hence on assumption of office, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu hitted the ground running by mobilizing contractors to clean up all the blocked drainages in the city, to make way for free flow of rain water to rivers or other convenient points.
This administration have done well in the area of road constructions as several road projects have been flagged off in Aba, while some are ready to be commissioned and many are ongoing. This have greatly alleviated the plights of our people.
The government through her agents (Aba Urban Renewal Committee) led by Engr. Solomon Ogunji, initiated a campaign to enlighten the citizenry on the need to desist from street trading - a situation where people display their wares along the roads and other unapproved quarters, like Eyimba Stadium, etc, in an enlightened democratic state such as ours is a misnomer.
This trend needed to be checked in a jiffy and it is what prompted this visionary government to give ultimatum to all these street traders to relocate to designated places. This was enforced by the Aba Urban Renewal Committee (a team made up of credible and enlightened fellows) since the defaulters paid deaf ears to several warnings there was need to forcefully eject them. This step is not vindictive of anybody or any group of persons.
Abia cannot afford to be a laggard or a toddler. An organized environment is always a good sight to behold. We must not be adamant to change in our own clime, rather it should be welcomed.
In achieving our collective goals as a people, sacrifices are inevitable.
THE GOOD-MORNING MARKET ALONG EAST ROAD BY NGWA ROAD BY ABA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA IS MEANT TO ABSORB THOSE AFFECTED BY THE RELOCATION EXERCISE. This is not a sectional government rather the interest of all Abians are rightfully protected as enshrined in our constitution.
All Abians irrespective of class or gender are obligated to obey the law as no individual nor any group of persons is above the law.
A situation where government agents carrying out their official duties are lynched, their vehicle burnt, is dastardly and highly condemnable and it is punishable by law. Culprits must be brought to book which will serve as a deterrent to others.
All hands must be on deck to support this government so as to help her succeed. Abia State belongs to all of us.
GOD BLESS US, ABIANS!
