Results of the April 11 governorship and state assembly elections in three local governments of Abia state have been cancelled. The affected councils are Obingwa, Isiala Ngwa North and Osisioma. Announcing the cancellation at INEC state headquarters in Umuahia, the state collation / returning officer, Professor Benjamin Ozumba said that reports from international observers showed that election in the affected councils were characterized by violence.
He insisted there was "incontrovertible evidence" to warrant the cancellation.
Expectedly the cancellation drew heated arguments and recriminations from agents of both PDP and APGA.
While PDP agent, Hon Solomon Ogunji protested against the cancellation the APGA agent lauded the action of the state collation/returning officer , saying it was in line with the complaints made by his party.
Before the cancellations were announced the result of the governorship poll in Osisioma had been announced with PDP scoring 42, 122 votes as against APGA with 1, 017.
