Abia State Gets New Female Chief Justice

Justice Theresa Uzoamaka Uzokwe has been sworn-in as the substantive Chief Judge of Abia State.
Before now she has acted twice in acting capacity as the Abia State Chief judge. Justice Theresa Uzoamaka Uzokwe
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Judge at the
executive council chambers of the Government House, Umuahia, Governor
Theodore Orji said the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria vested on the Governor, the state House of Assembly, the
Judicial Service Commission and the National Judicial Council (NJC) the
power of appointing an acting or substantive Chief Judge and in keeping
with section 271(5) of the 1999 Constitution appointed Justice Uzokwe
the new chief judge of Abia state.
The Governor expressed confidence that the new Chief Judge of the
state would weather through the challenges of her new office and charged
her to unite the judiciary and ensure that there is synergy between the
three arms of government in the state.
The Abia State Chief Executive further advised the new Chief Judge to
try and make an impact and appealed to her colleagues not to distract
her but rather give her maximum cooperation to excel.
Responding, the new Chief Judge, Justice Uzokwe expressed gratitude to
the Governor for the opportunity and promised to justify the oath she
has taken.
Justice Uzokwe who is Anambra State by birth started her job 33 years ago and was made High Court Judge 19 years ago.
